(Rambur, 1842) - Pied-spot; widespread in Africa
Hemistigma ouvirandrae
(Forster, 1914)

Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gambia,

marshes, and intermittent freshwater marches.
It has a wingspan of 53 mm and is
slender. The body is yellowish with black markings. There is a yellow and
black line to the front of the wing in both males and females, the face
is metallic dark blue above and yellow underneath. There is a blue bloom
on the body of the male, and a black streak across the front of the forewings.
There are brown spots on the wingtips of females. It occurs mainly at well-vegetated
ponds and swamps and tends to fly over small ponds or streams, settling
frequently.
The species is widespread in tropical

by IUCN Red List as Least Concern in all other regions in view of its wide
distribution, and because it is unlikely to be declining fast enough to
qualify for listing in a threatened category.
